Applying for a Hack License

5. To prepare for test questions on the regulations that govern the taxicab industry, applicants are referred to DCMR Title 31, Chapters 8, 9, and 10. This regulation may be purchased at the Office of Documents, 441 4th Street, NW, Suite 520 South, for under $20.

6. After successful completion of the Taxicab Hacker's exam, the applicant will need a $35 money order, payable to the DC Treasurer, to obtain an application package and fingerprint card. Fingerprinting takes place Monday through Thursday only. Allow eight to 12 weeks for fingerprint processing.

7. An applicant must have a valid motor vehicle operator's permit and have had at least 12 consecutive months of driving experience in the metropolitan Washington area. Those applicants who live in Maryland or Virginia must have a valid motor vehicle operator's permit issued by the state they live in.
